From the academic year of 2008, Department of Safety, Health and Environmental engineering (Referred to SHE) was developed by the integration of 2 departments such as Environmental Engineering, Industrial Safety and Health, as well as two graduate programs such as Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety and Disaster Prevention and one more graduate program of Environmental Engineering for part-time students with day-time jobs (environmental engineering of part-time graduate program). The integration objective of two departments was to provide and train the students to fulfill the requirement of professional capabilities both for environmental protection and public security in the traditional and high-tech industries so as to develop the department characteristics to consider the safety, cleaner production, pollution prevention and control for industrial manufacturing technology.


By the trend of sustainable development of domestic and international industries such as clean production, resources recycling, energy conservation and carbon reduction of green manufacturing, the green technology-related courses were also incorporated in teaching and research spindles of merged department, as well as combines faculty research topics, to the curriculum planning and students training goals. The department curriculum is divided into three programs such as environmental engineering, safety and health, green technology that there are four core courses cover environmental engineering, safety and green industry. The other elective courses were managed by the student interests, licensing exams and job employment, respectively to cultivate our students turning to the qualified professionals for the industry careers.


According to the national development trends and industry needs, the cultivated goal of department of safety, health and environmental engineering was to train our students as professional and technical personnel including environmental engineering and pollution control, occupational safety and health, green technology with green energy and carbon reduction.

The versatile courses such as green energy technology, clean production, carbon footprint and carbon inventory, monitoring and control of environmental pollution, environmental management, occupational safety and health management, emergency response and risk assessment, etc. are developed.

The department has obtained the engineering and technology education certification of IEET that the graduation degrees are subject to international recognition under the agreement of Washington Accord.

There are multi professional fields such as (1)governmental agencies including environmental protection agency of national government, the environmental protection department of local government, the labor inspections; as well as (2) sector of environmental engineering, occupational safety and health management of public and private institutions; (3)environmental consultants; (4)environmental monitoring; (5)environmental, occupational safety and health management; (6)green energy technology industries, etc.
